“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” – Mark 10:45

At Christ Covenant Church, we are committed to serving others in Jesus Christ, but what does it mean to serve others? The character of Christian service can be found in the words of Jesus in Mark 10:45. In that passage, Jesus says that he came to earth on a mission, and an integral part of that mission was service. Indeed, he says that he came to give his life so that we, broken and sinful individuals, might be set free. Christian service must be seen in the light of what Christ has done in his life, death, burial, and resurrection. We serve because he served us. Even though we were once outcasts and rebels, Christ served us, and when we are set free by Christ, we are then released to go and serve our neighbors. In fact, the deeper the gospel of Christ sinks into our hearts, the more we will be willing to be poured out for the people in our community. We serve not to be set free but because we have been set free by the One who came to serve and give his life as a ransom for many.
